Storyline: After a rescue of an orphaned lion cub, an English couple living in Kenya has to face the difficult task of training the adult lioness to return to the wild.

Review: This is a true life story based on a book written by Joy Adamson.Real-life husband and wife Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers play real-life husband and wife Joy and George Adamson. In self defence, George kills a lion and his mate only to find they were protecting their three cubs. Adamson family  decide to raise the cubs. They give two of them away to zoos, but they find it difficult to send  Elsa, a lioness to zoo. But then they realize they can't keep her and don't want to put her in a zoo. So they decide to help her live in the wild. the film is the story of heart warming effort of preparing a young orphaned lion cub to return to the wild.

The scenery of this film is spectacular.This beautiful  entire movie was shot in Africa( kenya area). It shows clearly  the thin dividing line between death and survival in the wild. When released,this was very popular film  and still it has the power to move.The acting of Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers,lion cubs and finally Elsa is really excellent! You can really see the genuine affection between the large cat and her caretakers as they interact.This movie force us to watch again. Enjoy this  true-life adventure ! Really a great heart warming movie.

कथासूत्र : जॉय अडम्सन आणि जॉर्ज अडम्सन (केनयाचे गेम वार्डन)या दाम्पत्याने एका अनाथ झालेल्या मादी छाव्याला वाढवले.वयात आलेल्या या एल्सा सिंहिणीला जंगलातील जीवन जगणे शिकवलेच पाहिजे तरच तिला मुक्त आयुष्य व्यवस्थित जगता येईल असे जॉय ठरवते. 

चित्रपट परीक्षण : केनयात वन्यजीव संवर्धनाचे कार्य करणारे एक इंग्लिश जोडपे एका अनाथ सिंहीण छाव्याचे पालनपोषण करून, वयात आल्यावर तिला पुन्हा जंगलात एकरूप होणे शिकविण्याचे अवघड काम करतात.वास्तवात पति पत्नी असलेले व्हर्जिनिया मकेन्ना आणि बिल ट्रेव्हर्स यांनी वास्तवात देखील पति पत्नी असलेले जॉय अडम्सोन आणि जॉर्ज अडम्सोन यांची भूमिका केली आहे.  स्व:संरक्षणासाठी एका सिंह-सिंहिणीला मारावे लागल्यावर त्यांचे तीन छावे अनाथ होऊ नयेत म्हणून अडम्सोन दाम्पत्य त्यांची मोठ्या ममतेने देखभाल करतात.  त्यातील दोन छावे ते प्राणीसंग्रहालयात देतात.पण लळा लागल्यामुळे एल्साला मात्र आपल्यापासून  दूर करणे त्यांना दुख:दायक वाटते.पण आपण एल्साला फार काळ आपल्याजवळ ठेवू शकत नाही याची लवकरच त्यांना जाणीव होते कारण एल्सा वयात आलेली असते. असे असले तरी आपल्याबरोबर कोणत्याही पिंजऱ्यात न ठेवता, साखळी न लावता मुक्तपणे हिंडणारी एल्सा त्यांना प्राणीसंग्रहालयात बंदिस्त करायची नसते. म्हणून आपल्या पोटच्या पोरीप्रमाणे वाढवलेल्या एल्साला जंगलात नेऊन तिला शिकार करणे ,स्वत:चे रक्षण करणे या गोष्टी जमतात का हे  एल्सा व त्यांची कसोटी पाहणारे अवघड काम अडम्सोन दांपत्य करू पाहतात. 

चित्रपटाचे केनियातील  चित्रीकरण अतिशय सुंदर आहे. छावा ते तरुण एल्सा यांच्या चित्रीकरणासाठी ३ सिंहिणी चा वापर केला गेला आहे.पण त्यांच्यातील फरक अजिबात ओळखू येत नाही.अडम्सोन दांपत्याची भूमिका व्हर्जिनिया मकेन्ना आणि बिल ट्रेव्हर्स यांनी अगदी समरसून केली आहे.चित्रपटाची कथा  काहींना थोडक्यात आटोपती घेतल्यासारखी वाटू शकते. 

सिंहीण आणि तिचे जणू आई बापच असणारे पालक यांच्यातील हे हृदयस्पर्शी भावबंध आवर्जून अनुभवावे असेच आहेत. एल्सा स्वत: शिकार करायला शिकते व जोडीदार सिंहाची निवड करते हे प्रसंग पाहिल्यावर माझ्यासारख्या कोणत्याही वन्यजीव प्रेमी माणसाच्या डोळ्यांत आनंदाश्रू उभे राहतील यात काहीच नवल नाही. अतिशय सुंदर आणि सर्वांनी पहिलाच पाहिजे असा हा चित्रपट आहे. चित्रपट पाहिल्यावर तुम्ही एल्साच्या प्रेमात पडला नाहीत तर तुमच्यातच काहीतरी कमतरता आहे असे खुशाल समजा.
